Who is organizing Arthalaya?

Samriddhi, The Prosperity Foundation is organizing Arthalaya. Samriddhi is a public policy institute based in Nepal which works towards generating ideas for a free and prosperous Nepal. In order to achieve prosperity in Nepal, Samriddhi believes that alternative ideas need to be explored and implemented. As a part of its educational programs, Samriddhi conducts arthalaya to help young people understand the business environment of Nepal and to promote entrepreneurship amongst young people.

Where is it happening?

Arthalaya will take place in Kathmandu as well as in Pokhara. We will be producing four batches of young future business leaders from Kathmandu and one Batch of young future business leaders from Pokhara. In Kathmandu, Arthalay is set to be held at the Dhulikhel, Village Resort. In Pokhara, the venue will be confirmed with the confirmation of the event.

What is the content of Arthalaya?

Arthalaya is a 5 days residential program. This program uses various participatory tools like business simulation, group work, documentary screening, guest speaker sessions and lecture sessions to help the participants explore various aspects about the policy regime of Nepal and establishing a business enterprise in Nepal. Sessions at Arthalaya cover the following areas –

   
Possibilities for a Prosperous Nepal

   
Rule of Law as a pre requisite for a conducive business environment

   
What motivates people? Figuring out the incentive system behind human resource management

   
Policy watch on government and markets – What kind of policies are business friendly and what kind of policies affect businesses negatively

   
How markets function? Exploring the voluntary exchange mechanism and regulatory mechanism of markets

   
Facilitating role of government

   
Understanding requirements and leadership skills  required to set up business


Why is it important to attend the program?

Before you enter the real world it very important for you to get a good understanding of how real market works and what are the different hurdles that one needs to face while running a business. At Arthālaya we give you a simulation of the real business world. We also give you information on various policies and various concepts like economic freedom, information that is vital for smooth operation of your venture in a country like Nepal. With the help of sessions at Arthalaya you will also be able to understand the policy environment of Nepal and implications of various discussions taking place at the national level.

How do I benefit from this program?

You as a participant of the program will be able to gain understanding of the importance of entrepreneurship in economic reform. You would also be able to experience the practical elements involved in creating a business. This program will combine real life obstacles with theoretical discussions to provoke you in thinking more specifically about your role in the future of Nepal.

Why is it residential and for a long period of time?

The residential program will help bond with other participants like you and learn about people from different backgrounds. The simulation of the Arthalaya enterprise module requires it to be residential in nature.  You will be able to continue the discussions during meal times and rest times and thus encourage a deeper networking and stronger linkages.

What are the basic criteria for being a participant of Arthalaya?

The participants have to be of undergraduate level to participate in the program. The undergraduate students can come from any field of study. Arthalaya also accepts participants undergoing their Masters degree. Secondary level of education is mandatory for Arthalaya as the course includes various topics which are a continuation of what has already been covered at the secondary level and participants coming from +2 only may not be able to grasp all the concepts and discussions.

What is the inter relation between the Dove and the Program?

Dove mostly is a symbol of freedom and the money on the Dove is a way of telling the people that we need Economic Freedom to develop this economy and that is what Arthālaya is trying to focus on.

What are the prospects of being an Arthalaya Alumni?

Being an Arthalaya alumni opens up opportunities for you to explore public policy and research domain further at Samriddhi. It also connects you with like minded people who have/ are trying to take steps to initiate changes in Nepal. As an alumni you are also able to access various national and international level opportunities of participation available at Samriddhi.
